Industry = Semiconductors

Press Release Summary = The Semiconductor Industry Association reported on February
9, 2007 that strong economic conditions and heated demand for consumer electronics
resulted in record semiconductor sales in 2006.

Press Release Body = George Scalise, President, the Semiconductor Industry
Association (SIA), an industry trade group, declared 2006 as the 'Year of the
Consumer' in the electronics industry in news published by The Associated Press. He
added, "Sales growth was largely driven by popular consumer products such as cell
phones, MP3 players, and HDTV sets - all products that have proliferated as
semiconductor technology has enabled dramatically lower costs coupled with improved
functionality.\"

Semiconductor sales for 2006 were $247.7 Billion, up by 9% from $227.5 Billion in
2005. This is because developments in semiconductor technology have empowered the
companies to curtail their costs to manufacture chips while also enhancing
performance.

Semiconductor sales in December '06 were slightly lower than November'06 but gained
year-on-year to close at $21.7 Billion, up by 9% from December'05. The worldwide
sales for quarter four registered at $65.2 Billion, again a 9% hike over previous
year.

The SIA reported that over 34 Million digital music players were sold in US in 2006.
Though the growth rate of these devices is projected to slow down, their
semiconductor component is predicted to gain momentum as companies add more
functions like increased storage capacity and video playback.

The group stated that around 235 Million PCs were sold worldwide in 2006, showing a
somewhat weakening growth rate. But PCs continue to use a significant portion of the
total semiconductor manufactured. The SIA projects global semiconductor sales to
report a further 10% hike in 2007 to clock in at $274 Billion.

The RNCOS report "Semiconductor Industry (2007-2010)" cites DRAM and wireless chip
sales to manufacturers of telecom equipment as the chief reason for growth in 2006.
Also, capital goods, i.e. real products or consumer goods that are utilized in the
manufacturing of other products but aren't integrated into new products, have
substituted consumer electronics as the primary demand driver for semiconductor in
2006.

The research report also highlights the market related facts and issues like, trends
in global semiconductor market with respect to segmentation, market value, capital
spending, & future prospects, emerging regions for semiconductor industry,
semiconductor equipment industry overview with statistical data, industry analysis
covering factors such as cost analysis, success factors, opportunities, and
challenges.
